"Collage 2009," a showcase of the school's vast talents and a preview of the MSM upcoming concert season, is one of the most anticipated events of the year. This free concert kicks off at 7:30 p.m., Sept. 10 in the Moores Opera House.
The program will include the Moores Symphony Orchestra performing excerpts from "Don Juan," the Moores Concert Chorale's unique a capella rendering of the overture to "The Barber of Seville," an all-trombone ensemble performing Richard Wagner's "Elsa's Procession to the Cathedral" and a performance by the Moores Men's Chorus, led by its new director Kelly Turner.
The concert lineup also premiers a short opera, "Review: A Satire, an Opera, a Party," by Jeremy Beck. This comedic piece focuses on a cocktail party from hell that is revealed to be, literally, a party from hell.
Faculty performances will include flutist Jennifer Keeney, affiliate artist; singer Cynthia Clayton, assistant professor; cellist Vagram Saradjian, professor; and pianist Tali Morgulis, assistant professor.
The UH Spirit of Houston Marching Band will take the stage along with the Moores Jazz Ensemble and a host of other soloists and groups.
UH's "Collage" was conceived by Franz Krager, UH director of orchestras. The season opener combines all of MSM's talents and since its inception in 1998, "Collage" has become one of the most celebrated events on MSM's concert schedule.
