UH LAUNCHES SHASTA'S SAFE PAWS PROGRAM

Students with hand-sanitizersAlthough the H1N1 virus (Swine Flu) is not as severe as originally thought by U.S. health officials, the University of Houston has implemented preventative measures over the next few days as a further precaution.

Through its recently launched Shasta’s Safe Paws program, the university plans to make available at 10,000 bottles of hand sanitizer at the various commencement ceremonies, which run May 15-16, and for students participating in study-abroad programs this summer, said Craig Ness, executive director for academic budgets and administration. The remaining bottles will be kept in storage.

Another 5,000 bottles of hand sanitizer are being distributed this week to students via Residential Life and Housing and at the Health Center, the Campus Recreation and Wellness Center, and the University Center, according to Diane Murphy, associate vice president for student affairs.

The Provost’s Office and the Division of Student Affairs are co-sponsoring the program with assistance from the Division of Administration and Finance.
