UH Restores University Commencement

On Dec. 18, the University of Houston will hold a university commencement for the first time in nearly seven years. The ceremony will take place in Hofheinz Pavilion and will be UH’s 75th university commencement.

“The decision to return to the university commencement was made after a review of UH commencement history and a survey of best practices at peer institutions in Texas and across the nation,” said John Antel, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost. “As the University of Houston embarks on a path to Tier One, restoring the university commencement tradition is one way to demonstrate we are a university of the first rank, preserving an academic
ceremony that institutions of higher learning around the world have celebrated for centuries.”

The ceremony for the Conrad N. Hilton College of Hotel and Restaurant Management and the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences will take place 9 – 11 a.m. The Colleges of Business and Engineering will hold their commencement 3 – 5 p.m. The ceremony for the Colleges of Technology, Natural Science and Mathematics and Education runs 7 – 9 p.m.

“This year’s university commencement will honor our graduates in a grand manner, with all the pomp and celebration commensurate with their academic successes,” Antel said.
