Student Artists unveil latest works at UH School of Art Exhibition Dec. 6-20

Fall’s end means a bold beginning for several University of Houston School of Art Students.

As the semester winds down, undergraduate and graduate student artists will unveil their best works at the 2008 School of Art Exhibition Dec. 6 – 20 at UH’s Blaffer Gallery.

Each year, this popular exhibition offers UH students the opportunity to present their works in a professional museum setting. It also provides Houston art aficionados with a first look at tomorrow’s art stars.

Works on view in the exhibition will include paintings, sculpture, video, ceramics, graphic communications, photography and interior design. The public also will have the opportunity to visit the students’ studios and talk informally with the artists about their work during an opening reception at 6 p.m., Dec. 5.

“To be in the company of so many talented student artists is an honor,” said Lisa Garrett, senior graphic communications student. “It is so interesting to experience the diversity of disciplines at the School of Art. The student exhibition provides us with an avenue for expression and collaboration and I am excited to be a part of it.”

A jury of UH art faculty selected the exhibition pieces, which were then installed in the gallery by Blaffer’s expert staff.

Patrons also have the opportunity to purchase students’ exhibition pieces. Interested buyers can ask the representative at Blaffer’s front desk for more details.
