COOL TUNES, HOT FOOD FEATURED AT UH’S
‘JAZZ ON THE LAWN’
Slip off your shoes, spread out a blanket and get ready to groove.
The University of Houston’s Moores School of Music (MSM) will
host an evening of jazz and dinner under the stars featuring the
UH Jazz Ensemble and guitarist Michael Wheeler.
MSM’s “Jazz on the Lawn” concert begins at 7:30
p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 27 in the scenic courtyard next to Moores
Opera House. In the event of rain, the concert will be moved to
Room 185 of MSM. With the purchase of a ticket, concert-goers will
receive a free fajita meal that will be served at the show. Food
will be available while supplies last. The event is open to the
public.
“A festival atmosphere like this can be a lot fun for audiences,”
said Noe Marmolejo, MSM’s director of jazz studies. “The
setting will definitely be more relaxed, so we’ll perform
selections that are upbeat and maybe a little funkier than usual.”
Selections to be performed include “Silver Celebration”
by John Clayton, “Big Dipper” by Thad Jones, “Exactly
Like This” by Tom Kubis and “Schmooze” by Al Kieger.
Featured guitarist Wheeler is an MSM instructor and has performed
with a host of popular musicians including Charlie Pride, Andy Williams,
Larry Gatlin, Robert Goulet and Willie Nelson, who produced his
album “Indian Summer.”
Tickets for this concert are $10 and $5 for students and seniors.
They will be available at the event. For more information, contact
the Moores box office at 713-743-3313
