Reading Series: Inprint Brown Reading Series
The Inprint Brown Reading Series, co-sponsored by Inprint and the University of Houston, continues its 25th season with “Cinco de Mayo Para Niños.” Award-winning author Diana Gonzales Bertrand will read from her bilingual children’s picture books. Following the reading, there will be a performance of David Prather’s “John and Juan,” a two-man play which explores the shared history of Texas and Mexico. 11 a.m., May 6. Blaffer Gallery – Opening Reception for Urs Fisher and Tam Van Tran
Opening reception for Blaffer Gallery’s latest exhibitions with works of art by artists Urs Fischer and Tam Van Tran. Fischer’s drawings, collages, sculptures and installations evoke an existence ruled by extremes: the banality and complexity that is life. Van Tran’s art consists of punched, crunched, stapled and woven paper brushed with chlorophyll and Spirolina and are described as meditation on the natural world with a psychological twist. Blueprint Ball 2006
The University of Houston Architecture Alumni Association Blueprint Ball celebrates the college and its long history of faculty expertise, its world-renowned lecturers and the first cutting edge program in Industrial Design in the southwest. The evening will be hosted by local news anchor and UH alum Dominique Sachse and will feature a silent auction and program line-up that includes Grammy-winning artist Lyle Lovett. 7 p.m., May 20. Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture, Entrance 18 off Elgin or Entrance 16 off Cullen Blvd. Valet parking is provided.
