UNIQUE DUO OSSEUS LABYRINT PERFORMS AT UH’S MITCHELL CENTER FOR THE ARTS

Raw physicality meets captivating technology. Science meshes with art. Nature interconnects with industry. There are many ways to describe osseus labyrint, and soon Houston audiences can experience this unique performance/dance duo when it arrives at the University of Houston

The Cynthia Woods Mitchell Center for the Arts at UH hosts osseus labyrint’s free performance of “SWARM” at 8 p.m. Friday, March 31, in the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture’s Burdette Keeland Jr. Design and Exploration Center. This event is open to the public, but contains nudity and is recommended for mature audiences.

The Los Angeles-based osseus labyrint (Mark Steger and Hannah Sim) are extraordinary performers who focus on the evolution of humans and their environments. In “SWARM,” the pair will investigate the behaviors and intelligence related to swarm activities. Enhancing the evening’s performance will be the site, the vacant Design and Exploration Center, which will provide ample room for the pair’s often gravity-defying exploits.

“One of our key inspirations has been the study of life sciences from Charles Darwin to Richard Dawkins and beyond,” Steger said.

Funded by a recent $20 million grant from George and Cynthia Woods Mitchell, the center combines the creative forces of UH’s Creative Writing Program, Blaffer Gallery and Schools of Theatre, Music and Art. In its second year, the center is hosting guest artists and offering inter-disciplinary arts curriculum to students.
