GREEK AMBASSADOR MALLIAS TO DELIVER FOREIGN
POLICY
SPEECH DURING VISIT TO UH
Alexandros P. Mallias, the ambassador of Greece to the United States,
will visit the University of Houston March 7 to meet with faculty
and administrators and to deliver a free public lecture.
Ambassador Mallias will present a speech titled “The Balkans
and the Leading Role of Greek Foreign Policy” at
4 p.m. in the Gerald D. Hines College of Architecture Theater, room
150. Following his presentation, the ambassador will take questions
from the audience.
His stop at the University of Houston is part of a 10-day tour
of Texas. He will also be addressing the Houston World Affairs Council
the evening of March 7.
Mallias, a careeer foreign service officer since 1970, was appointed
Ambassador to the United States in October, 2005.
He obtained a degree in economics in 1972 from the University of
Athens. From 1972-76, he studied political science at the University
of Geneva. Ambassador Mallias has held numerous positions in the
government of Greece including Ambassador to Albania, National Coordinator
at the Stability Pact for Southeastern Europe and Chairman of the
Coordinating Committee for the Greek EU Presidency’s program
for the Balkans.
Mallias has been a frequent panelist and participant on Southeastern
European issues in conferences and seminars. He worked closely with
“think tanks” such as the Hellenic Foundation for European
& Foreign Policy (ELIAMEP – Athens), the Project on Ethnic
Relations (Princeton), and in the early 1990s with the Conflict
Management Group in Cambridge, Mass.
