NEW UH PROGRAM PREPARES NOVICE WORKPLACE
TRAINERS
Effective training is vital to any organization. Without it, employees
may not understand a company’s goals, perform inadequately,
and unintentionally commit costly errors in the workplace.
The New Trainers Certificate Program (NTCP) offered by the University
of Houston’s College of Technology will focus on teaching
training design and techniques and communication skills to professionals
from all fields. The program is being facilitated by the college’s
Human Development and Consumer Sciences Department and is open to
the public.
NTCP consists of four sessions taught by a combination of faculty
and industry experts. Sessions will be conducted from 9 a.m. to
4 p.m. on Jan. 27 – 28 (Session I – Foundations of Workplace
Learning), Feb. 10 – 11(Session II – Designing and Developing
Effective Training), Feb. 24 – 25 (Session III – Delivering
a Positive Learning Experience), and March 3 – 4 (Session
IV - The 1, 2, 3s of Evaluating Training).
“NTCP is geared toward subject matter experts who are required
to train but do not have training experience,” said Consuelo
Waight, UH professor of training and development and instructor
for Session I. “Our goal is to develop subject matter experts
who can design and facilitate training with a performance improvement
mindset.”
Each participant will receive a Certificate of Completion for every
session completed and a Certificate of Achievement (CEA) completing
all four sessions. In addition to the CEA, those attending every
session will receive continuing education units and may be able
later to apply for three credit units toward a Master of Science
in Human Resources Development, should participants decide to enroll
in the university program.
The NTCP fee is $2,500. Individual sessions are $675. There is
a group discount for three or more participants attending from the
same organization.
