LAW PROFESSORS AT UH WILL EXPLORE ‘THE SCHIAVO PREDICAMENT’
IN ROUNDTABLE DISCUSSION

The legal, political and ethical ramifications of the Terri Schiavo case will be discussed by a panel of University of Houston law professors at noon, Thursday, March 31, at the UH Law Center.

The event is free and open to the public.

Participating in “The Schiavo Predicament: Ethics, Politics and the Constitution” will be UH Law Center professors Laura Oren, Richard Alderman, Joan Krause and Richard Saver. The discussion will cover topics such as legislative overreaching and the separation of powers, medical powers of attorney, hospital ethics committees and how they function, as well as “right to life” issues. During the roundtable discussion, questions will be entertained only from students and members of the UH Law Center community, but some of the professors also will be available after the event to respond to media inquiries.

Schiavo is the brain-damaged Florida woman whose feeding tube was removed earlier this month under court order, provoking an ongoing moral and legal struggle to determine her fate.

The one-hour discussion will be held in the UH Law Center Commons area.
