From research to the bedside, the next generation of healthcare
will rely greatly on an integrated approach of basic sciences,
including math, physics, engineering, super computing, pharmacy
and optometry. Other areas, such as business, law and social
sciences also will feature largely in the healthcare landscape
in years to come. The University of Houston, known for its
pre-eminence in the basic sciences among U.S. universities,
is currently completing an $81 million Science and Engineering
Research and Classroom Complex. The Methodist Hospital, currently
rated by U.S. News & World Report as one of the
nation’s top-ranked hospitals, recently committed $500
million to develop its new Research Institute where scientists
from diverse specialties and backgrounds will collaborate
to translate the latest laboratory discoveries into effective
treatment strategies. |
