CANCER AWARENESS, PREVENTION DISCUSSED
DURING HOPE THROUGH GRACE SYMPOSIUM AT UH
To help educate researchers, community leaders and cancer advocates
about cancer prevention, early detection and cancer survivorship
programs, Hope Through Grace, Inc. (HTG) will host its third annual
symposium at the University of Houston Wellness Center Nov. 6.
Nearly one-third of the more than 500,000 cancer deaths expected
to occur in 2004 will be related to poor nutrition, physical inactivity,
obesity and other lifestyle factors, according to the American Cancer
Society.
“Conquering Cancer Through Family Health and Wellness”
will feature presentations on health disparities, spirituality and
health and cancer prevention from scholars and professionals in
the field. Physicians and survivors will discuss risks, prevention,
care and survivorships during five breakout sessions on breast,
colon, prostate, lung and blood-related cancers.
The event is open to the public. Health care providers, health
advocates, community leaders, and civic leaders are expected to
attend the symposium.
Registration, which includes a box lunch, for general admission
is $20 and $15 for students with proper identification, and after
Oct. 22, $25 and $20 respectively.
The symposium will present the Unsung Hero/Heroine Distinguished
Service Award to individuals who exemplify the mission of HTG.
Free parking will be available in Lot 20A on University Drive at
Spur 5 or Lot 1A Calhoun at University Drive. For more information
about the event and registration forms and fees, call 713-668-HOPE
