FRONTIER FIESTA AT UH OFFERS A FUN, FACT-FILLED CELEBRATION
OF HOUSTON’S WESTERN HERITAGE

Frontier Fiesta, the University of Houston’s historic festival that showcases the school and celebrates the city’s
Western heritage, will present the 2004 edition on campus April 1-3. The public is invited.

The major components of the annual event, which began at UH in the 1940s, include Broadway-style variety shows, carnival booths, cultural and educational performances, historical reenactments, free concerts by nationally known recording artists, the UH Red & White football game, a 35-team barbecue cook-off, and a scholarship competition.

The newest element to Frontier Fiesta is Family Fun Day, with thousands of Houston area elementary school children brought in to enjoy the festivities.

Along with the purely celebratory aspects of the occasion, the cultural and living historical exhibits remain a vital part of the Fiesta, too. Some of the most popular presentations have been the American Indian exhibits, Ballet Folklorico Dance Troupe, the Buffalo Soldiers Regiment, and the Texas Rangers Frontier Company.
