The Beacon Day Center provides hot meals, showers, laundry services, and case management to Houston’s underserved and homeless population. Volunteers will provide hands-on support to the city’s homeless through a variety of activities including food preparation, patient sign-in, and laundry. For questions, please contact Emily Johnson Transportation will be provided. All volunteers will meet and depart from the UC at 8:15 am.

Generation One Academy

Location: 1910 Napoleon St., Houston, TX 77002

Generation One is a non-profit agency in Houston's third ward that provides after school programs for elementary school students. Volunteers are needed to tutor the students and supervise various sports activities.

Hunger & Homeless Awareness Week

11/17/14 - 11/21/14  

November is the National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Month and MVP is bringing its very first Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week to University of Houston. Houston is one of the top cities that have a high priority for homelessness therefore MVP has decided to dedicate a weeklong service events in hope to raise awareness among our community and help those in need. Stay tuned for updates!

Houston Food Bank

The Houston Food Bank works to end hunger in the Houston community. Volunteers are needed to help sort and package food items that will be distributed to food pantries and charities in the Houston area. For questions, please contact Emily Johnson.

Ronald McDonald House

Location: 1907 Holcombe Blvd, Houston, TX 77030

The Ronald McDonald House houses families of children facing life threatening conditions, including cancer and those in need or organ transplant. MVP volunteers will interact with children being treated in Houston area hospitals by playing games and doing arts and crafts. For questions, please contact Emily Johnson.

Blood Drive

Did you know one blood donation can save three lives? MVP will be hosting a blood drive with Gulf Coast Blood Center at PGH. If you are interested in giving blood and want to sign-up ahead of time please fill out this form. All donors will receive a total of one hour of service! Donors are also welcomed without an appointment at all times except between 1-2:30pm. For questions or concerns please contact Chris Pinto.

Community Garden

Location: On the corner of Wheeler Ave. and Cullen Blvd. next to the Cougar Woods dining hall.

The Campus Community Garden is an all organic garden run by the Office of Sustainability. The garden provides fresh vegetables and herbs to low income community members, and provides educational opportunities to neighborhood schools.
