Houston Food Bank

Description:The Houston Food Bank provides food donations to food insecure individuals and families in and around Houston. Volunteers will aid in sorting and packaging donations, scanning cans, assembling packages for various programs, and packaging rice.

Description: Generation One is a non-profit agency in Houston's third ward that provides after school programs for elementary school students. Volunteers are needed to tutor the students and supervise various sports activities.

Houston Library Warehouse

Description:The Friends of the Houston Public Library support the Houston Public Library system through book sales. Volunteers are needed to work as cashiers and book sorters for the Children's Book Sale taking place.

Service Night

Location: Student Center Space City Room 214

Description: Service Night is an on-campus event where students have the opportunity to make cards and PB&J sandwiches for the homeless, as well as blankets and dog toys. This month, we will be making “Get Well Soon” cards for hospital patients but in the future, we will be making holiday-related cards and crafts!

The Women’s Home

Description: The Women’s Home provides housing and treatment services for homeless women in the Houston area. Volunteers will assist in The Cottage Shop, a boutique resale store, by processing, organizing, and sorting the large amounts of clothing received on a daily basis.

Community Garden

Location: Behind Cougar Woods

Description: Community Garden is an event where volunteers remove weeds, water plants, harvest fruits and vegetables, and generally keep the garden behind Cougar Woods clean. Gloves and water will be provided, but make sure to wear comfortable clothes and closed-toed shoes!

Fall 2015 Career & Internship Fair

Location: Hilton UH Hotel

Description:This is a University-sponsored career fair that is open to all majors and classifications. Career fairs and events provide wonderful opportunities to meet potential candidates and UCS hosts a variety of career fairs and events throughout the year. Students will be helping with set-up and tear down, as well as helping representatives during the career fair. Volunteers will be given a red volunteer shirt but should otherwise dress comfortably and ready to work!
