The 2018 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration is an opportunity for the University of Houston community to celebrate and reflect on the legacy and life of civil rights leader Dr. King. We gather during this time to memorialize the work and accomplishments of one of the most prominent African American leaders in modern history.
The MLK Celebration Committee composed of UH students, faculty and staff organized and planned several events that will take place January 18 – January 20. All events are free and open to the public.

Each year, the MLK Commemorative Celebration brings speakers to our campus to provide remarks that reflect the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther, King Jr and aspects of social justice. This year’s theme “Dr. King’s Legacy, Where are We Now?” will feature a keynote address from Symone Sanders –Political Activist, CNN Political Commentator, and Former National Press Secretary for U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders Presidential Campaign. Please join us as we celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

The MLK Day of Service is a part of United We Serve, the President's national call to service initiative. It calls for Americans from all walks of life to work together to provide solutions to our most pressing national problems. The MLK Day of Service is one piece of a larger campus-wide initiative to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
