The University of Houston System Office of the General Counsel provides legal advice and related services to the University of Houston System and its component institutions, including the University of Houston, University of Houston-Clear Lake, University of Houston-Downtown and the University of Houston-Victoria.
Our clients are the Board of Regents and the employees of the University of Houston System acting in their official capacities. The Chancellor and other designated officials may request legal assistance for official business directly from our office. Other offices are asked to route their requests through the appropriate reporting structure at their respective institutions and agencies.
The types of matters for which the Office of the General Counsel provides legal services include, but are not limited to, contracts and conveyances, student/faculty/staff matters, Texas Public Information Act requests, subpoenas, intellectual property, employment law, real estate, tax and gifts, acquisitions, legislation and other matters applicable to higher education law.
All matters requiring legal advice or legal action should be referred to the Office of the General Counsel.
