Summer M.A. for Theatre Educators

Our Summer M.A. for Theatre Educators program is an affordable and convenient path for busy theatre educators to accomplish a graduate degree in three short summer sessions. Twelve theatre educators will be accepted this summer to begin their two-year path toward a Master of Arts in Theatre.

Coursework in the Summer M.A. is developed keeping in mind that you want to further develop your theatre programs and your classes. Our faculty is eager for the opportunity to teach working professional theatre educators. Besides the dedicated faculty, you will have at your disposal the many resources and amenities that the University of Houston has to offer its graduate students.

Application Process

The required materials for application to the Summer M.A. for Theatre Educators program at the Kathrine G. McGovern College of the Arts:

  • Statement of purpose
  • Three (3) letters of recommendation
  • Mini-portfolio
  • Official (sealed) transcript from every university the applicant attended
    • An additional set of transcripts submitted to the Graduate College through the online application in CollegeNET
  • Resume
  • Copy of Theatre Teaching Certificate from State of Residency
    • If teaching in private school, letter from school administrator
  • Official GRE scores or proof of registration for GRE

Application Deadlines

Priority Deadline: February 15, 2020
Applications for entry each summer continue to be accepted and reviewed through the spring

Application Deadline: May 15, 2020
Final application deadline depends if space is still available

Courses

Classes for summer 2020 will begin on Monday, June 22, 2020 at 8:30 a.m. and will run Monday – Thursday from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. for three and a half weeks. Students will have long weekends to study and to explore the exciting arts community that Houston has to offer. The last week will be spent studying with some of the most eminent and established theatre companies in London, New York and Chicago.
