2019 Orchestral Institute Information
The online application (via Acceptd) and specific audition requirements for each orchestral instrument will be posted by the beginning of November. Applicants have the option of attending a live audition (video recorded for faculty review) or submitting a recorded audition (video file only). Letters of Recommendation are NOT required and should not be submitted.
Applicants must be between the ages of 18 – 30.
Faculty may give preference to applicants who have not already attended the festival for more than two consecutive years.
Applicants who are not U.S. citizens and are not already in the U.S. on an F or J visa valid through June 30, 2019 are required to apply for a J-1 visa to attend TMF. English proficiency is also required – all rehearsals, sectionals, lessons, master classes are held in English.
The TMF Faculty and Music Director will review all auditions and applications. We are not able to offer feedback on live or recorded auditions due to the volume of applicants.
Applicants will be notified of acceptance by e-mail only on or before Monday, March 18, 2019. Acceptance deadline (including returning acceptance paperwork and paying $500 registration fee) is Friday, March 29, 2019.
All accepted participants are required to participate in TMF for the entire festival (arrival on May 31 and departure on June 30) without absences. No leave of absence will be granted.
2019 Orchestral Institute Fees
All fees are NON-REFUNDABLE and only payable online by credit card via Acceptd
All participants receive a fellowship that covers tuition, on-campus housing and meals in UH cafeteria (a $4000 value)
Application fee: $80 (Due with TMF application)
Registration fee: $500 (Due upon acceptance and no later than March 29, 2019)
DS2019 Request Fee for International Orchestra Fellows Not Currently in U.S.: $250 (Due upon acceptance and no later than March 29, 2019). Orchestra Fellows who are not U.S. citizens and are not already in the U.S. on an F or J visa valid through June 30, 2019 are required to apply for a J-1 visa to attend TMF. The $250 DS2019 Request Fee Includes DS2019 from the University of Houston, international express mailing costs, and health insurance, but excludes SEVIS, visa and any consular fees. English proficiency is also required – all rehearsals, sectionals, lessons, master classes are held in English.
Security Deposit: All participants are required to have a credit card on file while attending the Immanuel and Helen Texas Music Festival as a security deposit. Any charges against the participant's account (lost music/books, dorm room/equipment damage) will be charged to the credit card on file and the participant will be notified of any charges. In the event of unexpected departure or dismissal for any reason, $250 will be charged to the credit card on file, and the participant may be charged for reimbursement of housing costs.
