The “Fridays at Moores” series continues with AURA Contemporary Ensemble’s “Eye to Ear,” an evening of music Inspired by visual art. The performance features works by guest composer Chris Arrell, Viet Cuong, George Tsontakis and student award-winning composers Carlos Cordero and Yanis Eberhart.
Arrell explores a favorite cartoon in “O Popeye,” Cuong finds inspiration in a quote from Picasso in “Electric Aroma” and Tsontakis evocatively interprets famous paintings in “Portraits of El Greco.” AURA will also premiere new works by Cordero and Eberhart.
About the Ensemble
The Moores School of Music’s AURA Contemporary Ensemble is dedicated to the performance of contemporary chamber music, with an emphasis on works that represent the trends and styles of the last two decades. Under the direction of Rob Smith, this innovative and professional caliber ensemble performs a wide variety of American and international composers, many of whom, such as Samuel Adler, Stephen Montague and Joan Tower, have come to campus for the performance of their music.
