Installing the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

Note: Use the Safari browser when downloading this software. 

1. Download the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client installer for Mac.         

                                                                                                                                                                                                                 

2. Enter your Microsoft 365 email.  

3. Click Next.     

   
                          

    

4. Enter your Microsoft 365 password. 

5. Click Sign in.     
   
   
   
   

6. You will be prompted to authenticate based on your default authentication method. Click Other Options to select one of the following to authenticate:

   
   
   
   
   
   
   
7. Select AnyConnect on the lower left side of this window.
   
   
   
   
   
8.  Click Start AnyConnect.
   
   

9. Click Download for macOS link to download the software.
   

10. Click Allow.
    
    

11. If you get a DMG file double click the file, which is located in Finder/Downloads. 

    

12. Double-click the AnyConnect.pkg file to start the Cisco AnyConnect Installer wizard.

    

    
    
    

13. When the Welcome window displays, click Continue.

    

14. Click Continue. 
    
    
    
    
15. Click Agree. 
    
    

16. Select your hard drive as the destination where you want to install Cisco AnyConnect and then click Continue if you receive this screen.

17. Click Install. 
    
    

18. Allow a moment for the software to install.
    
    

19. At the prompt, enter your administrator account password for the Mac and click Install Software.

20. Now to allow system extension at bottom of this window click Open Preferences.

21. Click Allow.
    
    

22. The installation was successful click Close. 
    
    
    
    
23. Click Move to Trash. You are now ready to use CISCO AnyConnect VPN click Finder/Applications/CISCO. Double click CISCO AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.app. 
    
    

Uninstalling the Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client

1. Click Finder icon.
   
   
   
   
2. Click Applications. Double click CISCO folder.
   
   
   
   
3. Double click Uninstall AnyConnect. 
   
   
   
   
4. Click Uninstall. 
   
   
   
   
   
5. Enter Admin password.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Enter Admin password again if prompted. Click OK.
   
   
7. Uninstall is completed. 
   
   
   
   
   

Connecting to the UH VPN

This is for users that need to access UH secure network resources from off campus. Please make sure to have the DUO mobile app installed on your device before starting.

1. Open Finder and search for Cisco. You should see the Cisco folder.
2. Double-click Cisco folder, then open Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
   
   
   
   
   
   
3. Type vpn.uh.edu in the address column as seen here then click “Connect”.
   
   
   
   
   
   
4. Once prompted enter your Microsoft 365 email.
5. Press Next.
   
   
   
   
   
6. Enter your Microsoft 365 password.
7. Click Sign in.
   
   
   
   
   
8. You will be prompted to authenticate based on your default authentication method. Click Other Options to select one of the following to authenticate:
   
   
   
   
   
9. On your mobile device press Tap To View Actions (Android) or Login request (iPhone)… Or go directly to the DUO mobile app on your phone.  
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
   
10. Press Approve.

Note: Once the VPN connection is established, a message displays, informing you that you are now connected to the VPN.

Disconnect from the UH VPN

1. Click the Cisco AnyConnect icon with a small lock.

2. At the prompt, click Disconnect.

Note: If you disconnect from UH VPN you will be required to re-enter your password for reconnections.

Connecting to the Full UH VPN

This is for users that need to access web-based journals and databases licensed by UH Libraries. Please make sure to have the DUO mobile app installed on your device before starting.

Disconnect from the Full UH VPN

1. Click the Cisco AnyConnect icon with a small lock.
   
   

2. At the prompt, click Disconnect.

Note: If you disconnect from the full UH VPN you will be required to re-enter your password for reconnections.
