Thin Clients
|
|
What is SkillSoft’s definition of Thin Client solution?
- A Thin Client is a desktop environment that communicates with another system through a network; the remote system executes all SkillSoft client logic (HTML, JavaScript, Java and Flash)
- With a Thin Client only visual, keyboard, mouse and audio actions are performed on the device local to the learner.
- A Thin Client is typically either a software application operating on a desktop PC or a proprietary thin client device. Two examples of Thin Client software technologies are Citrix ® and Windows ® Terminal services.
|
- SkillSoft will provide support towards the investigation of any issues that may surface, with the understanding that Thin Client configurations are not fully supported and SkillSoft will not enhance or upgrade our courseware to meet the requirements of an unsupported (Thin Client) configuration.

When accessing SkillPort eLearning via dialup from off-campus, initial download may take longer than campus network access.
A browser enabled with a pop-up blocker (or similar window blocking tool) may interfere with the launch of SkillPort courses. If your SkillPort player fails to launch, you should set the blocking tool to "Always allow" for the SkillSoft web site from which you access SkillPort courses. If this fails to solve the problem, SkillSoft recommends disabling the blocking tool during course play and re-enabling it after completing your learning session.
If using a firewall along with your internet connection from an off-campus location, it should be set to allow self-executing Java applets coming from SkillSoft Corporation or the IP addresses below. If these applets are restricted, the SkillPort course player will not launch after clicking on "Play this course".
If your firewall allows restriction by IP address, make sure you do not restrict IP addresses 208.254.37.129 through 208.254.38.254 so you can access SkillPort and associated courseware.
If your firewall allows restriction by ports, make sure you do not restrict ports 80 and 554. All traffic with SkillPort and associated courseware travels over port 80. You will also need to keep ports 80 and 554 open for Windows Media and Real Media streams that may be used for playing some SkillPort courses.
