A lot has been going on in Information Technology over the summer, all designed to make your life easier and more productive.

Here are some highlights:

Student Essentials Link on the IT Website

The IT Website, www.uh.edu/infotech, has a new feature that links to IT services that are helpful to new and returning students. Found on the left side of the page and titled "Student Essentials," the feature provides information on how to get computer accounts, how to configure your computer for wireless access, and gives locations of campus computer labs. Student Essentials also provides information on how to get answers to your IT-related questions.

Online Password Reset Site

The Online Password Reset Site, at www.uh.edu/infotech/password, is a secure, self-service tool that allows current UH students, faculty, and staff to reset forgotten and expired passwords for their academic computer accounts.

Benefits of the Site:
  • More user-friendly and convenient
  • Directly accessible from the uh.edu/infotech page
  • Detects if you're using the Safari browser and redirects you appropriately instead of giving you a blank page
  • Tighter security
New Location to Purchase Software and Clickers

Effective August 20th, software and Clickers are available for purchase in the Cougar Byte, on the lower level of the University Center. They will no longer be available to students at the IT Support Center in room 116 of Philip G. Hoffman Hall (PGH).

Central Site Computing Center Relocation

The Central Site Computing Center's name has changed and the facility has moved to the M.D. Anderson Library. Now called Central Site Technology Commons, the lab has relocated to room 58 in the basement of the Library and is providing the same services it did for years in its prior location in the Social Work building. However, with the move and name change, some exciting new services have been (or will soon be) introduced, including:
  • Overnight checkout of laptops and digital cameras (available soon)
  • New iMac computers (now available)
  • Multimedia room for completing media projects (available soon)
Visit www.uh.edu/infotech/php/template.php?lab_id=11 for more information.

NOTE: Access to the new C-Site is ONLY through the east entrance of the Library, across from the University Center. You won't be able to get to C-Site from the main library.

Redesigned IT Website

In March 2007, IT launched its new IT Web site: www.uh.edu/infotech . In addition to a more attractive look and feel, the site is designed to improve service delivery, navigate easier, and convey a larger dose of essential, relevant, and timely content.

August 25 (Saturday) Support Hours

The IT Support Center, located in room 116 of the Philip G. Hoffman Hall, will be open on Saturday, August 25th, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. The additional support hours will provide students with walk-up access to all the services and information the ITSC normally provides Monday through Friday.
