AT&T to Remove Campus Payphones
Note: This story may not be current. It is part of the IT News Archive, and exists as a historical document.
AT&T has announced that it will soon begin removing pay phones from various campus locations. AT&T's schedule for payphone removal will commence in mid-June 2007, with work activity projected to last a couple of months.
The majority of campus payphones will be removed, but some will be left in operation (see list below).
AT&T indicates the removal of payphones is due to low call volumes, prompted by the "ongoing growth of wireless phones and other mobile communications devices," which have "significantly impacted the demand for and usage of retail pay phone services."
