UIT Security Alert: UH Virus Outbreak
Current Status
UIT Security Alert: UH Virus Outbreak
Please be advised, we are currently experiencing a virus outbreak affecting some UH file shares. As client computers are infected, they are uploading files to file shares to which they are connected. The files names being uploaded include sexy.exe and other inappropriate file names. Enterprise server administrators are aware of the problem and are working to remove these files as soon as possible. As infected computers are being identified, desktop personnel are working to scan and clean these computers.
This is similar to an outbreak that occurred yesterday on a different UHS campus that was successfully addressed using a dat file 7201 issued by McAfee last night. However, the outbreak at UH today is a mutated form of the virus and is not responding to the 7201 dat. Our administrators and Security team are working with McAfee regarding a dat file to address this latest mutation.
As an immediate step, please make sure that your client computers are updated with the most current McAfee dat file - at least version 7201.
We will update you as more information is available.
