DisruptedElectrical problem causing disruption to Rolm telephones.

Due to an electrical problem, the UH telephone system is currently unable to connect calls for a large number of telephone users. The problem is affecting some on-campus users with Rolm phones or users that have Rolm phone numbers forwarded to IP phones. Incoming callers will receive a busy signal and will not be transferred to voicemail. UIT is currently working to solve the problem.

Telephone services have been restored to two-thirds of the University of Houston campus. Full restoration of services cannot be completed until a replacement part arrives later today to repair a failed power supply for the telephone system. UIT is working with College Business Administrators to provide a work around for mission critical telephone needs.

Telephone service has been fully restored to the campus. If you continue to have telephone problems please send email to Network Operations and support staff will resolve your issues.

The telephone system that failed today is the aging Rolm system that is being phased out in favor of Voice over Internet Protocol. This major, multiyear project is currently underway and promises to provide UH with a stable voice communications platform that can grow with the University. In the meantime, UIT is committed to providing the best possible service and will continue to support the existing technology.
