Section 3: Storage Management
- Purpose
The purpose of the Storage Management policy is to ensure that expensive and limited administrative computing data storage resources are managed effectively.
- Policy Objectives
This policy is intended to serve the following objectives:
- Appropriate media (e.g. tapes versus traditional disks versus optical disks) are selected for data storage.
- Existing media are allocated fairly among users.
- Future data storage requirements are determined in advance so that media purchases can be conducted in a timely and cost-effective manner, and user needs are met without unnecessary delays.
- Statement of Policy
All allocations of storage for use on the administrative computing system must following existing procedures outlined in subsequent sections of this chapter.
