Chapter 4: Programming Procedures
Section 1: Programming Policies
The purpose of this section is to outline policies related to applications programming
development or use.
- Proprietorship of Computer Software
All software and documentation developed by MIS staff is
the exclusive property of the University of Houston. The
University can sell, exchange or donate software to other
agencies in accordance with applicable UH, UH-System, or
State of Texas guidelines.
- Purchased Software
Purchased software and documentation may be used,
copied or transferred only in accordance with the
software vendor's approval and the approval of
MIS management.
- Unauthorized Software
Personnel may not purchase or write their own
software for use in the organization without
authorization from MIS management.
- Uniform Programming Practices
Software that is to operate on the administrative
computing system should be written in accordance to
current software standards.
- Program Languages
The official supported languages for software that is to
operate on the administrative computing system are
Natural 1 or Natural 2, C or COBOL.
