Section 1: Organization Policies

The purpose of the MIS Policies and Procedures Manual is to provide uniformity and control in the analysis, design, development or acquisition, project management, documentation, programming, testing, implementation and operation of computing systems and services.

• Policy Objective
  

  The standards contained in this manual are to:

• Provide guidelines for the interface of the Management Information Systems (MIS) department and other Information Technology (IT) departments with the University of Houston (UH) general user community.
• Provide an authoritative source of formal policies and procedures that will allow UH users and MIS personnel to perform their respective functions with increased certainty.
• Establish traditional audit trails and controls.
• Assist with the training and orientation of IT and user personnel.
• Scope
  

  This manual is intended to provide clear and concise guidelines for MIS functions. It will not provide all information or directions necessary for all MIS operations. References to the Manual of Administrative Policies and Procedures (MAPP) will be given where appropriate. References to other documentation sources or computing screens will appear in the text of the policy or procedure.
