Second Year Curriculum
Second year curriculum is the beginning of an intensive industrial design journey. Students build a thorough foundation in history, materials and methodsand visual communication specific to the industrial design field. Classroom knowledge and problem solving methodologies are applied in the Sophomore Design Studio
Workshops led by visiting industry professionals offer unique and valuable additions to the studio environment.
INDS 2500: Industrial Design Studio III
Cr. 5. (2-9).
Prerequisites: ARCH 1500 and 1501 and consent of the dean.
Problem solving and introduction to the basic materials. Ordering systems and the transition from abstract reasoning to design reality.
INDS 2360: Materials and Methods I
Cr. 3. (3-0).
Prerequisite: INDS major or consent of instructor.
Survey of materials, processes, techniques, and equipment commonly used in the manufacture of products. Introduction to processes of industrialized production and their influences on design.
INDS 2355: Design History I
Cr. 3. (3-0).
Prerequisites: ENGL 1304 or equivalent and sophomore standing.
Survey of the history of design and art from ancient Egypt to the fifteenth century with emphasis on the influence of cultural, philosophical and technical forces.
INDS 2340: Visual Communication I
Cr. 3. (1-6).
Prerequisite: INDS major or consent of instructor.
Seeing, understanding and communicating objects and seeing basic relationships analytically. Project-based explorations of various two and three dimensional media. Introduction to computer aided design, including two-dimensional drafting and three-dimensional modeling and rendering.
