Disaster Assistance After
Hurricane Ike
Many UH employees need more resources after
Hurricane Ike
We are receiving
personal accounts daily about how Hurricane
Ike has impacted thousands in our U of H
community. The degree of severity is broad
with many suffering property loss and
economic hardship. The effects of Hurricane
Ike were wide-ranging and there is much work
for us to do as a team to restore our campus
and community. We are committed to assisting
those affected by identifying and directing
them to public resources available in the
area.
For those who are non-benefits
eligible employees there are additional
resources available for missed work due to
Hurricane Ike. At the Texas Workforce
Commission website
http://www.twc.state.tx.us/
you can determine if you would be eligible
to apply for Unemployment Insurance (UI)
and/or Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA).
There are 29 counties that have been
approved for Disaster Unemployment
Assistance. People who worked in Angelina,
Austin, Brazoria, Chambers, Cherokee, Fort
Bend, Galveston, Grimes, Hardin, Harris,
Houston, Jasper, Jefferson, Liberty,
Madison, Matagorda, Montgomery, Nacogdoches,
Newton, Orange, Polk, Sabine, San Augustine,
San Jacinto, Trinity, Tyler, Walker, Waller,
and Washington Counties who are out of work
due to storms and flooding caused by
Hurricane Ike may be eligible for
Unemployment Insurance (UI) and/or Disaster
Unemployment Assistance (DUA).
