University of Houston Summer Camp
With summer fast approaching, parents across
campus are searching for opportunities for
their kids to grow and learn and of course
have fun. The new and improved UH website
has made it easier than ever to search for
university summer camps that your kids will
love. We have highlighted some of these
on-campus summer programs to give you an
idea of the great camps available for
children this summer.

Upward Bound
Program information:
The program offers academic activities,
educational field trips, college and
financial aid information, and cultural
activities to help prepare disadvantaged
students for college. The Upward Bound
program provides students with the right
tools and skills to help them pursue their
dreams of earning a college degree and
becoming professionals in their selected
field of study.

CAMP REC 2008
Program information:
Would you like your child to experience some
fun and excitement over the summer and just
don’t know what to do? Well, UH Campus
Recreation is the place for your child.
Whether it’s through singing or swimming,
across campus or arts & crafts, counselors
at Camp Rec will lead children in developing
good values—and having fun. Camp Rec will
offer special sessions on sports, arts,
fitness, and field trips. A camp T-shirt
will also be included.

Houston Cougar Soccer Camp
Program information:
The mission of the Houston Cougar Soccer
Camp is to provide a complete, in-depth
soccer experience emphasizing fundamentals
in order to allow young people to reach
their full potential. Our camp is a great
place to improve your skills, compete
against good players, and to build
confidence for players both boys and girls
of all ages and abilities.

G.R.A.D.E. Camp (Girls Reaching And
Demonstrating Excellence)
Program information:
The University of Houston is hosting its
sixth year of summer camp for girls who may
be interested in pursuing engineering
careers or studies. Known as G.R.A.D.E.
(Girls Reaching and Demonstrating
Excellence) Camp, the summer camp is
accepting applications for girls in grades
8th through 12th (as of August 2008) who are
either curious about or want more experience
with engineering. The girls work in teams
doing fun engineering activities as well as
interact with engineering college students,
faculty, and industry engineers.

iD Tech Camps
Program information:
This Summer send your child to iD Tech Camps
- America’s #1 technology camp. iD Tech
Camps is offering weeklong technology
program for ages 7-17 at the University of
Houston. During the week, students build
robots, create video games, design websites
with Flash®, film digital movies, learn
programming and more. With one computer per
student and an average of six students per
staff, students are given the attention they
need to excel and take home a project at the
end of the weeklong course. Call

Joe Curl’s Summer Basketball Camp
Program information:
Our focus is to provide an exciting
experience that will compliment our
enthusiasm for the game, as well as our
enthusiasm for teaching it. Our staff
includes a wide range of AAU, High School
and Junior college coaches from around the
nation that will stress the basic
fundamentals such as shooting, passing, and
moving without the ball. During the games,
contests, individual instruction, and guest
speakers, we make every effort to hold the
best camp in the nation and pride ourselves
in the ability to do so.

Mentoring and Enrichment Seminar in
Engineering Training (MESET)
Program information:
The Mentoring and Enrichment Seminar in
Engineering Training (MESET) program is a
one-week residential engineering
introduction program for rising 12th
graders. Two identical sessions will be
offered. The program is limited to fifty
students per camp session. Participants stay
on the University of Houston campus in a
dormitory. UH engineering students serve as
camp mentors and counselors.
The MESET curriculum includes:
• An introduction to the various disciplines
of engineering (“What do engineers do?”)
• Project-based learning (hands-on team
project competitions involving engineering
design)
• Site visits to Houston-area engineering
companies
• Field trips
• Panel discussions by working engineers and
current engineering students
• Fun at the campus sports and recreation
center

ESSENTIALS is an intense, rigorous training
experience focusing on the physical skills,
mental approach and training disciplines
that great point guards possess. Not the
typical "fundamentals" taught at other
"camps," Essentials teaches PGC
fundamentals, including:

Science Camp 2008
Program Information
The ExxonMobil Bernard Harris Summer Science
Camp (BHSSC) is a free, academic program of
The Harris Foundation, which takes an active
role in shaping education in students
entering grade 6, 7, or 8 in the fall of
2008. Science, mathematics and engineering
are critical to society’s infrastructure for
the 21st century and preserving that future
requires an investment, such as the BHSSC,
in our youth today.
