New Employee Focus Newsletter
We’re changing to fit the way you work. In the coming months, you’ll see this newsletter evolve as we begin including more information about the way the university does business. We’ll be adding process changes from departments across campus and we look to all of you to help us identify topics of interest for our articles. For article suggestions and comments, please contact Amy Iverson, at aiverson@uh.edu

New Human Resources Web Page
We are listening and responding to your HR web needs. There has been a lot of feedback about the difficult navigation and design of the Human Resources web page. We have redesigned our site to make important HR programs and resources more visible and to allow user to move easier through the entire site.

Visit Human Resources on the web and let us know what you think.

Leader Training
The Human Resource Department is now offering Coaching, Discipline & Documentation training to leaders across campus. This course introduces methods for facilitating coaching and disciplinary sessions with employees and covers methods for proper documentation. The goal is to provide leaders with the skills necessary to facilitate coaching and disciplinary transactions that are in line with University policy. The course is currently being delivered to groups or teams of leaders working within the same area or department. Department Managers interested in facilitating training in their area should contact their assigned HR Generalist for more information.

W2's
Any employee who has not received their 2006 W2 for any reason can access it electronically via PASS. PASS will not be available 02/24/07 through 03/05/07 due to the PeopleSoft HR upgrade. It will be available after March 5th. Employees may also request a copy from the Customer Service Center at X33988.

Electronic W-2 Rewards
Online W-2 processing was available once again this year via the PASS system. One employee from each campus who chose to get their W2 electronically instead of having one mailed to their home was selected at random for a gift. Emily Marin, Assistant College Business Administrator for the Cullen College of Engineering, was selected from UH main campus, and won a $50 gift certificate to Barnes & Noble.

Instructions for logging into PASS and PeopleSoft 8.9
With the 8.9 version, HRMS is consolidating UserId’s. You will no longer use your ‘Z’ userid, or your HR UserId in PASS or PeopleSoft HR. Your new User id will be your Employee ID. All users will be required to select Forgotten Password to receive a temporary password via email before they can log in to the system. The temporary password will expire as soon as they access the system for the first time, and they will be required to change the password immediately. After they change their password, they need to close the browser and reopen a new session to log on. Please contact Customer Service for assistance with login problems at X33988.

Training Operations Survey
Training Operations, the new Business Services department, would like your guidance as it develops new training opportunities for faculty and staff. Many of you have already provided your feedback on the training we could be offering or ways that we can improve our current business process training. We’d like to formally document the need for training and develop a strategy for improvement. If you’d like to help us with these efforts, please complete our short survey at the below link. We’ll publish the survey results in next month’s newsletter and keep you posted on the department’s game plan for developing new training classes in future issues.
