Faculty/Staff On-line Parking Registration
Parking and Transportation Services is pleased to announce that faculty and staff parking registration will be available on-line from June 1, 2007 to July 31, 2007. The system will allow faculty and staff that have a University employee id (PeopleSoft ID) to register from any computer with Internet Web access. On-line parking registrations will still be processed by College/Department, and returned as a single packet, as we have done in the past. On-line permit packets will be made available to the College/Department beginning August 13, 2007, and should be distributed to employees by August 20, 2007.

Employees who register on-line and don’t elect to use payroll deduction (those paying by cash, check, or credit card) will be required to print their confirmation and come to the Parking office to pay and finalize their registration by July 31, 2007. Payments will be accepted after July 31, 2007 to finalize a registration; however, those permits will not be included in the College/Department packets. Employees that choose payroll deduction can finalize their registration without the need of any paper forms.

Individual paper registration forms will be available after August 1, 2007 and will require the employee to pick up the permit at the Parking office.

Increased State Matching for Retirement Plans.
The University of Houston Human Resources Department is pleased to announce that the General Appropriations Act passed by the 80th State Legislature will increase the matching rate of ORP and TRS state employee retirement accounts. Effective September 1, 2007, the state will increase their contribution to TRS from 6.4% to 6.58% and ORP from 6% to 6.58%.

For example, an employee, earning $45K per year, enrolled in ORP currently receives $2,700 in state matching. The new rate will increase the matching for the same employee to $2,961 per year, raising the contribution by $261 per year.

    HR Training
    HR has teamed up with the Writing Center to make available a new course titled WRITING EFFECTIVE BUSINESS MESSAGES. This is a three (3) hour course that focuses primarily on planning and composing written business communication. In this class, participants will learn how to organize and write memos, write effective e-mail messages and will become more comfortable with the entire business writing process.
