Ms.
Monica M. Lawrence serves the University of
Houston as Director of Human Resources
reporting to Joan Nelson, Executive Director
of Human Resources. She
brings with her more than 17 years of experience in
Human Resources, Employee Benefit Plans,
Pension Administration and Human Resource
Information Systems. This experience
includes union and non-union work
environments in Government, Pediatric and
Geriatric Health Care, Technology and
Education.
Ms. Lawrence was born and
raised in Alvin, Texas. She graduated from
the University of Notre Dame with a
Bachelor’s of Business Administration in
Management-Human Resources/Labor Relations.
She completed graduate coursework at Eastern
Michigan University in the Master’s of
Science-Human Resources/Organization
Development program. She returned to Texas
to attend law school at South Texas College
of Law, where she obtained her Doctor of
Jurisprudence in May 2004.
Ms. Lawrence has taught undergraduate and
graduate students as an adjunct faculty
member for Houston Baptist University in the
College of Business and Economics for
courses in Business Law, Human Resource
Management, Organizational Behavior, Labor
Relations and Employment Law.
Ms. Lawrence maintains an active license in
the State Bar of Texas. She is currently a
member of the Society of Human Resource
Management (SHRM), Texas Bar Association,
American Bar Association, Houston Bar
Association, Mexican American Bar
Association and the Brazoria County Bar
Association. She currently serves on the
Board of Directors for the Pearland Chamber
of Commerce and the Community Foundation of
Brazoria County and is on the Board of
Governors for the Northern Brazoria County
Education Alliance.
