Promotions I want to promote one of my employees. What do I need to do?

Promotions to the next step in the approved career ladder require a Position Request (ePRF) with a justification memo from the director. The memo should cover the following areas:

  • Performance contributions to the department or university that warrant promotion
  • New job duties (must be assigned on or before the date of promotion)
  • Employee in current job for at least one year, and meets all
  • Qualifications for the new job, including education, skills and years of experience
Promotions outside the career ladder must be requested via a Job Analysis Questionnaire (JAQ) submitted as an attachment to an ePRF.


If you need additional information about the promtion process, call the HR Service Center at 713-743-3988 and ask to speak to a compensation analyst. If a promotion request has been submitted on your behalf, talk to your department business administrator. HR cannot discuss promotions in progress with the employee under consideration.
