Student Employment and Leadership Opportunities

Resident Advisor

A Resident Advisor (RA) is a student staff member who under the supervision of a Residential Life Coordinator (RLC), serve as liaisons between SHRL and residents and work within a diverse community of students to foster student success in living-learning environments by building relationships, promoting engagement and leading with an ethic of care.

RA staff are located in all of the residence halls including: Cougar Village I, Cougar Village II, Cougar Place, Moody Towers, Bayou Oaks and University Lofts.

Desk Assistant

A Desk Assistant (DA) is student staff member who work the 24-hour information desk in the residence halls. General work responsibilities include facilitating the guest check-in/check-out policy, answering the phone and other customer service duties by building relationships, promoting engagement and leading with an ethic of care. 

DA staff are located in all of the residence halls including: Cougar Village I, Cougar Village II, Cougar Place, Moody Towers, Bayou Oaks, University Lofts and the main Housing Office located in Cougar Village II. 

The Desk Assistant hiring process occurs year rounds. The Application can be found through cougar pathways. 


Conference Assistant

The Conference Assistant (CA) staff are paramount to the success of summer programs at UH and truly serve as ambassadors. The experiences that our guests have on campus help those not yet a part of the UH family to see all that they are missing.

The CA ;position is divided into 5 categories which include Guest Assistants, Linen Crew, Special Programs at Cougar Place, Cougar Mover Crew Leaders, Facilities Assistant and Senior Staff. Each position provides support for a specified area of summer conference operations. Summer conferences are held in Cougar Place, Cougar Village 1, Cougar Village 2 and Moody Towers.

Community Mentor

The Community Mentor (CM) position is a student staff member that provide advocacy, intervention, mentorship and support to residential students who need assistance in achieving student success at the University of Houston through one on one intervention meetings with students.  The position also as the Advisor for the community's Hall Council. This position works 20 hours per week and reports to a Residential Life Coordinator (RLC).

Communications and Social Media Assistant

The Communications and Social Media Assistant position is a student staff member that assist with writing, editing, and distributing of content for print and digital materials shared by departments within SHRL. Responsibilities range from assisting with the development of a social media content calendar creating written materials to be placed in communication pieces (i.e brochures, newsletters, advertisements, news releases, etc.). Videographer

The Videographer position is a student staff member that assists with filming, producing, and editing of videos and interviews for SHRL events and initiatives. Responsibilities range from attending SHRL events and capturing footage to be shared in digital marketing channels to managing video archives and equipment in the SHRL marketing office. Photographer

The Photogapher position is a student staff member that assists with capturing photos during SHRL events and programs. Responsibilities range from attending SHRL events and taking footage to be shared in digital marketing channels to managing photo archives and equipment in the SHRL marketing office.
