Summer Before Freshman Year:
--Consider what you want to get out of your college education
--Make a schedule for your freshman year: include when you will be in class, time for studying, time for working, and time for extra-curricular activities

Freshman Year:
--Get to know the professors teaching your classes; make use of their office hours
--Readjust your schedule if you are finding you are spending too much time working or participating in extra-curricular activities; MAKE STUDYING A PRIORITY
--Talk to your advisors about the opportunity to study abroad or conduct a summer research project or internship
--Join HURN, Honors, UH, and major-related organizations

Summer Before Sophomore Year:
--Participate in a study abroad program, internship, volunteer endeavor or summer research project
--Find out more about available minors. The Honors College offers Medicine and Society, Phronesis, and Center for Creative Work to students.

Sophomore Year:
--Get to know the faculty in your major department and find out from them about enrichment opportunities in your discipline
--MAKE STUDYING A PRIORITY
--Find variety when choosing your electives
--Consult the Office of Undergraduate Research regarding potential research and scholarship opportunities; Complete Student Information Form before office visit
--Talk to your advisors about the opportunity to study abroad or conduct a summer research project or internship
--Join HURN, Honors, UH, and major-related organizations and consider a leadership position

Summer Before Junior Year:
--Participate in a study abroad program, internship, volunteer or summer research project

Junior Year:
--Participate in organizations and continue to pursue leadership positions
--Begin planning for your senior honors thesis by securing a faculty mentor to direct the project
--MAKE STUDYING A PRIORITY
--Research graduate and/or or professional schools and find out requirements, costs and fellowship and assistantship opportunities
--Consult the Office of Undergraduate Research regarding potential research and scholarship opportunities; Complete Student Information Form before office visit
--Submit paperwork for senior honors thesis to Office of Undergraduate Research

Summer Before Senior Year:
--Participate in a study abroad program, internship, volunteer endeavor or summer research project
--Study for GRE, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, etc. (if applicable)
--Begin developing personal essays and application materials for graduate or professional school (if applicable)
--Consult the Office of Undergraduate Research regarding scholarship opportunities that may support your advanced degree

Senior Year:
--Participate in organizations and continue to pursue leadership positions
--MAKE STUDYING A PRIORITY
--Apply for graduation
--Participate in senior honors thesis program
--Study for GRE, MCAT, LSAT, GMAT, etc. (if applicable)
--Request letters of recommendation
--Apply for graduate or professional school (fall semester); be cognizant of application fees
