To further substantiate and complement the Honors core curriculum, The Honors College offers multiple opportunities to advanced and transfer students to complete upper-level courses (3000-4000) in Honors. Moreover, The College's two established minors, in Medicine & Society and Phronesis: a Program in Politics and Ethics, a soon-to-be third minor in Creative Work, and the Honors Business Program, are all accessible to all qualifying students at the University of Houston.
Bauer Honors offers up to 30 credit hours (10 courses) in 3000-4000 level business courses each semester. Honors College business majors are automatically members of the Bauer Honors Program, while non-Honors students can apply to take these courses through either the Honors College or the Bauer College of Business.
A burgeoning program, The Center for Creative Work offers courses and programs to students interested in a critical and interdisciplinary arts environment. Students are able to participate in workshops as well as attend art outings, retreats, and other signature events that seek to connect creative minds with fascinating books and creative performance.
Phronesis: A Program in Politics and Ethics, is highly recommended for students considering a pre-law emphasis to their undergraduate studies. The Phronesis minor provides participating students with a strong foundation in classic texts that address issues in current topics as well as the most profound, enduring questions of public life, while preparing them to be the leaders and citizens of a self-governing political society. Students of any major may choose various courses in political theory, philosophy, and classics to qualify for the minor in Politics and Ethics.
Established in 2005, The Medicine & Society Program at Houston promotes an interdisciplinary understanding of health and health care through academic courses, research, fieldwork (including domestic travel and study abroad), student internships, scholarly and public conferences, visiting speakers, and an electronic portal with online information and materials. Affiliated faculty from the University of Houston, the University of Texas Health Science Center, local research hospitals, and other health care institutions provide students with the necessary tools to become informed and thoughtful graduates who have a comprehensive grasp of health care challenges and opportunities, locally, regionally, nationally, and globally.
