Honors Education at the University of Houston

Houston History MagazineHonors College student Keri Myrick recently wrote an article on the history of Honors education at the University of Houston for the fall 2012 issue of Houston History Magazine. The theme of the issue was The Road to Tier One, and the article makes the point that the Honors College is one of the academic leaders in helping the University reach that goal.

Whenever the University of Houston has mustered the will and the resources to compete at a higher level, Honors education has helped “move the needle”— President Renu Khator’s metaphor for positive change.  “At its best, Honors has served the institution as a whole,” said William Monroe, dean of the Honors College since 2009.  “Academically, Honors should be the leading edge for the University,” he said, “the tip of the spear.”
