The Great Conversation

Meet the 2013 Event Co-Chairs:
Matt and Tamara Steele

Matt Steele

The Steeles

When Matt Steele came from Wisconsin to attend the Honors College at the University of Houston, he arrived carrying little more than a foam cheese head, a Wisconsin State flag, and a few articles of clothing, most of them sleeveless. With active participation in campus life and Honors activities, the years flew by and Matt graduated with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. After graduation, Matt stuck around Houston, first working for Shell E&P and later Southwestern Energy before embarking on independent consulting work and founding several oil and gas companies. Today Matt is the President and Chief Executive Officer of Ursa Resources Group II LLC. During his downtime, he enjoys taking in Cougar football games with his family and teaching his sons to fish.

Tamara Steele

Upon arriving at the Honors College from her native Minnesota, Tamara (Muffat) Steele set out to convince everyone that she did not have an accent. When that endeavor failed, she became involved with a number of Honors student activities, including the recruitment of promising high school students. Here she saw more success helping to bring the aforementioned Mr. Steele to Houston. After graduating with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering, Tamara went into environmental consulting, focusing on air quality permitting and compliance reporting. She left consulting, but continued environmental work, first with a refining company and then later with a multi-state natural gas transmission pipeline. Currently, she chases her three very active boys; Max, Zane, and Matt the Elder around their Heights neighborhood and serves on the advisory board of the boys' school.
