Requirements for Graduation with Honors

Students who complete all of the following requirements and who fulfill the requirements of their chosen major will graduate with “University Honors and Honors in Major,” the highest honor a UH student can achieve.  Students who do not complete a thesis but fulfill all other honors requirements will graduate with “Membership in The Honors College.”

  • Achieve a 3.25 grade point average.
  • Take at least one honors course each semester.
  • Complete approximately thirty-six hours of Honors coursework during the undergraduate career. Transfer students and students who enter the College after the freshman year must complete about one-third of their courses at UH for honors credit. The number of Honors courses required for an individual student is determined by the Coordinator of Academic Services in conference with the student.
  • If graduating with “University Honors and Honors in Major,” complete a senior honors thesis or senior project.
