Spain: EADA Barcelona (Graduate Students Only)

EADA Business School Barcelona's International Master in Tourism and Hospitality Management is the place to be for two Hilton College graduate students each spring. Students will earn 11 or 12 UH credit hours by taking EADA's specialized curriculum.

Located on the Mediterranean Sea, Barcelona is a city like no other. Brimming with world-class art, culture and architecture, Barcelona is home to masterpieces of many great architects, including Antoni Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia. Walk the streets where Pablo Picasso spent his formative years and launched his artistic career!

EADA Business School of Barcelona is located in the heart of the city's bustling downtown area. Participants studying at EADA will live in apartments that specialize in renting to students. A student housing forum lets students connect for sharing flats as well. 

Students will study 13 subject modules ranging from sustainability in the hospitality industry to revenue management, consulting and much more over two mini-terms at EADA.  Subject modules have been divided into course blocks equivalent to Hilton College credit courses. 


  • Must be enrolled in the Hilton College masters program
  • Must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0
  • Must have at least one semester remaining at UH upon return from Spain
  • Must have a valid passport: 6 month validity rule meaning that your passport should be valid for more than six months before you would be allowed to enter Spain. If you do not have a passport, apply immediately from the U.S. Department of State. Or inquire with the UH Learning Abroad Office
  • Must be able to produce a bank statement showing funds totaling $6,000 USD, this is a visa requirement

How to Apply

  1. Complete and submit an HRM Study Abroad application. The application includes submitting a résumé, essay and naming a faculty reference.
  2. Applications will be reviewed by the HRM Study Abroad Selection Committee and students will be informed of their status within two weeks of the application deadline. Assessment of application is based on academic qualifications of the applicant, integration of EADA curriculum with applicant's degree plan and strength of essay.
  3. Selected applicants will meet with Jennifer Glickman regarding their application packages to EADA.
  4. Selected applicants will meet with UH Learning Abroad academic advisors.

Selected Applicants Agree to:

  • Sign a Student Responsibilities Contract 
  • Apply for an International Education Fee Scholarship (IEFS)—deadline October 1 for spring semester scholarships
  • Comply with all requirements, deadlines and procedures of UH Learning Abroad. Please note that Learning Abroad requires an additional application form and a number of documents for outgoing exchange students.
  •  Assist Hilton College with study-abroad exchange activities (i.e. promoting at All Students Organization Fair, giving short presentations to students about the experience, greeting/assisting incoming exchange students, assisting outgoing exchange students, etc.) during the semester after returning.
Expected Expenses 
  • UH tuition and fees for 11 or 12 credit hours (please see course equivalency grid)
  • UH Learning Abroad Fee—$75-$125
  • Airfare—round trip Houston to Barcelona (approximately $1,200 as of May 2014)
  • Visa—$160 (as of April 2014)
  • Housing—starts at $500/month
  • Health insurance is required that covers basic medical illnesses. If you do not have health insurance, you will be required to purchase either with the UH Health Center or through a private insurance provider.  
  • Local transportation costs
  • Academic materials and/or textbooks
  • Meals
  • Personal expenses and incidentals
Personal preferences affect the total cost of your program. Participants should plan for their semester abroad and budget appropriately.

  EADA recommends a budget of approximately USD $1,300 to $1,600 per monthfor living expenses.
