If you’re a junior or senior with a passion for food & beverage or sales and events, the Dave Smalley Spectrum Catering Student Leadership Experience Endowment can help propel you to a successful career in hospitality.
Thanks to this endowment, you can apply each semester for two competitively paid internships at the Hilton University of Houston, one in Sales and Event Services, and the other in Food & Beverage Purchasing and Accounting. If you’d like experience working in any of these areas, there’s no better place to learn than at the hotel within your school!
As an intern, you’ll work with the guidance of your manager to perform daily operational tasks, and will face clients as a true hotel employee. You’ll be responsible for finances, events and decision making. You’ll also develop communication, organization and analytical skills that you can use for life.
At the end of the internship, you’ll emerge as a better leader armed with practical experience in your chosen field. This opportunity comes from a $500,000 gift from Dave Smalley (’79), founder and CEO of Spectrum Catering, Concessions & Events. His initial contribution sparked support from the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation and a variety of hospitality companies, and the endowment now totals more than $2 million.
Interested? Applications for the Spring 2017 semester are due by Monday, December 12. You’ll need a resume and at least a 3.25 GPA to be eligible. For a full list of requirements – and to apply – go to Hire Hilton College.
