The University of Houston operates one of a few personal care assistance programs nationwide at an institution of higher learning that is specifically structured to help physically-challenged students achieve their dream of a college education. The Attendant Care Services (ACS) assist physically-challenged students with the activities of daily living so they can live on campus independently while working toward their academic goal. Services We Provide

- Light meal assistance
- Light housekeeping
Reasonable requests beyond these services can be provided. The ACS Coordinator is available to assess medical conditions and make referrals for care, as needed.
The mission of the Attendant Care Services at the University of Houston is to enhance the quality of life for our physically challenged students. ACS provides 24-hour attendant care to address students' specific needs and promotes disease prevention, health maintenance and wellness through education. The ACS program is designed to keep students well groomed, healthy and actively participating in campus life.
The students participating in the Attendant Care Services program live at Cambridge Oaks Apartments located at 4444 Cullen Blvd. This facility is wheelchair accessible. Cambridge Oaks also houses non-ACS students.

Funding for the ACS program can be obtained through private resources and the Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS). Please contact your Department of Assistive and Rehabilitative Services (DARS) Counselor for assistance.
What Should I Bring?
Students may furnish the rooms with their own furniture if they choose, including a microwave.
Students are encouraged to bring a shower chair or mechanical lift if needed. Any medical equipment recommended by a Physician or Physical/Occupational Therapist should also be included.
All students are required to provide disposable gloves for their care. A communication device that can be programmed with touch buttons to call the ACS office is also highly recommended.
Students are required to provide their own bed linens, personal hygiene supplies, laundry detergent and housekeeping supplies.
Please bring any and all medications that you are currently taking and prescriptions for any new or renewed medications that you will require.
- All apartments have full service kitchens complete with stove, dishwasher and refrigerator.
- Each apartment is equipped with telephone/cable/and internet outlets.
- Kick back in the clubhouse for big screen television entertainment.
- Unwind at the pool.
- Cambridge Oaks also has a laundry room with washer, dryer, snack and soda machine.
The Attendant Care Services at the University of Houston was created in February 1991 to provide attendant care to students with disabilities living on campus. The attendant care program assist physically challenged students with the activities of daily living so they can live on campus independently while working towards their academic goal. The program is managed by a certified rehabilitation registered nurse to address some of the student’s medical needs.
The program operates out of the Cambridge Oaks student-housing complex at the University of Houston main campus. The University of Houston and Health Center provides a five-wheelchair-capacity van for transportation to group activities.
