6360: Statistical Methods for Business
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing. A survey of statistical
methods for obtaining useful information from data. Data description;
probability used in statistical inference; statistical inference in one-,
two-, and multisample situations, including analysis of count data.
6361: Introduction to Management Science
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing. An introduction to quantitative
models and methods for business decisions. Deterministic decisions under
constraints, including linear programming and its applications, inventory
control, and project scheduling. Decisions under uncertainty, including
forecasting, simulation, and decision analysis.
7350: Probability Model and Applications
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing. A first course in probability
intended to serve as a foundation for statistics and operations research.
Basic probability theory; independence and dependence; Discrete, continuous,
and multivariate distributions; conditioning as a means for problem-solving.
7354: Sampling Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and STAT 6360 or approval of chair. Planning and analyzing samples from finite
populations; simple, stratified, multistage, and systematic sampling; ratio
estimates.
7355: Decision Analysis for Uncertainty Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and STAT 6361 or STAT 7370, or approval of chair.
Decision trees and risk neutrality, expected utility theory, types of risk
attitudes and utility functions. Applications to business decision making
and to public policy evaluation.
7357: Decision Analysis for Tradeoffs Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing and STAT 6361 or STAT 7370 or approval of chair. Multiattribute tradeoff models, intertemporal tradeoff models, and cost-benefit models. Additive value theory with applications to business decision making and to public policy evaluation.
7370: Introduction to Operations Research
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing. Introduction to deterministic
models in operations research. Linear, nonlinear, and dynamic programming;
network analysis, Kuhn-Tucker conditions, and optimum-seeking methods.
Emphasis will be placed on modeling and applications.
7371: Mathematical Programming Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate
standing and STAT 7370 or approval of chair. Introduction
to deterministic models in operations research. Linear, nonlinear, and dynamic programming; network
analysis, Kuhn-Tucker conditions, and optimum-seeking methods. Emphasis will be placed on modeling and applications.
7381: Simulation Processes Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing, STAT 6361, or STAT 7350 and STAT 7370. Random number generation; design, construction, and verification of computer simulation models.
