Doctoral Student Mentoring Program
Program Requirements
Participation in the program requires that both the doctoral student and undergraduate devote significant time and effort to the research. In addition, each student must satisfy the following specific program requirements.
Doctoral Students:
(a) Students must be full-time enrolled, have achieved candidacy, and be actively working on their dissertation research prior to beginning the program.
(b) Students must participate in the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies Mentoring Workshop held in April each year.
(c) Each student must have the agreement of his or her faculty research advisor to allow the undergraduate to participate in the research study.
(d) Students must agree to direct and monitor the undergraduate’s performance and, where necessary, provide a final grade to the faculty member to assign.
(e) Each student will complete an assessment of his or her experiences as a mentor and submit it to the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies upon completion of the program.
Undergraduate Students:
(a) Students are required to participate in the MENTEX Program Orientation provided by the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies in April each year.
(b) Students wishing to receive academic credit for the program must enroll in either 3 hours or 6 hours of undergraduate research/independent study offered by the doctoral student’s research advisor.
(c) Students will present the results of their work at a research workshop held during the Spring semester.
(d) Upon completion of the program, students will write and submit a report summarizing the work accomplished on the research project.
(e) Student will complete an assessment of his or her experiences as a trainee and submit it to the Office of Graduate and Professional Studies upon completion of the program.
