6230: Assessment and Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorders

Cr 2 (2-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing in Communication Sciences & Disorders and consent of the instructor. Study of the identifying characteristics, etiologies, prevalence, assessment, and treatment of individuals with autism spectrum disorders. 

6198:6298:6398:6598: Special Problems
Cr. 1-5 per semester or more by concurrent enrollment. Prerequisite: approval of director. A course designed for graduate students who wish to pursue special studies for which a course is not organized.

6230 Assessment and Intervention for Autism Spectrum Disorders
Cr. 2. (2-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing and consent of instructor. Study of the identifying characteristics, etiologies, prevalence, assessment, and treatment of individuals with autism spectrum disorders.

6261: Research Methods in Communication Sciences and Disorders
Cr: 2. (2-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing and consent of the instructor.  Overview of research methods in communication disorders.  Students learn critical thinking skills needed to develop questions and be effective consumers of research. 

6297:6397: Selected Topics in Communication Disorders
Cr. 2 or 3. (2-0; 3-0). Prerequisite: consent of instructor. May be repeated for credit with permission of program head. In-depth study of a specific area.

6321: Swallowing Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: COMD 2376 and graduate standing in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Evaluation and management of swallowing disorders.

6325: Disorders of Literacy
Cr. 3. (3-0) This course is an in-depth analysis of the disorders of language that affect the development and maintenance of literacy across the lifespan.

6326: Motor Speech Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: graduate standing in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Assessment and management of motor speech disorders in adults, including apraxia of speech and degenerative neurological disorders; physiological systems contributing to reduced intelligibility; and differential diagnosis of the dysarthrias.

6328: Acquired Cognitive Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: graduate standing in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Study of the etiologies, prevention, assessment and treatment of acquired cognitive disorders such as those due to traumatic brain injury, right hemisphere stroke, aging and dementia.

6334: Aphasia and Related Communication Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: graduate standing in Communication Sciences and Disorders. Symptomatology, diagnosis and treatment of acquired neurogenic communication disorders including aphasia, alexia, agraphia and agnosia.

6372: Remediation of Childhood Language Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: COMD 3383 or equivalent, or consent of instructor. Principles, methods, and procedures in the assessment and treatment of school-age children with delayed language-based learning disabilities.

6387: Voice and Resonance Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: COMD 2376 and COMD 4385 or equivalents, or consent of instructor. Evaluation and management of vocal disorders including etiology, assessment, and treatment strategies.

6399: Master's Thesis
Cr. 3 (0-0).  Prerequisites: graduate standing. Master's Thesis.  May be repeated for credit.

7170:7270: Graduate Seminar in Speech-Language Pathology
Cr. 1 or 2. (1-0; 2-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing in Communication Sciences and Disorders and consent of instructor. Seminar will cover issues that impact the practice of speech-language pathology. Sample topics include cultural competence, use of technology, and use of interpreters and translators. Course may be repeated for credit. 

7221: Fluency Disorders
Cr. 2. (2-0). Prerequisites: ComD 2338; ComD 2376; ComD 4385 or equivalents, or consent of the instructor.  Investigates the nature, assessment and treatment of fluency disorders in children and adults.  Prevention and cultural considerations are addressed.  An emphasis on evidence-based practice underlies the treatment portion. 

7322: Articulation and Phonological Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: COMD 3371 or equivalent, or consent of instructor. Analysis of theoretical and technical advances in the clinical management of articulation disorders.

7391: Clinic in Speech-Language Disorders
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: Consent of instructor. Supervised practicum in the diagnosis and treatment of speech-language disorders. Clinical clock hours are not awarded for grades below a "B". May be repeated (three terms required for completion of the program requirement).

7192: 7392: 7692: 7992: Advanced Practicum in Speech & Language Disorders
Cr. 1, 3, 6, 9. (1-0, 3-0, 6-0, 9-0). Prerequisites: completion of 175 hours of graduate practicum & consent of instructor. Supervised practicum in the diagnosis and treatment of speech-language disorders in an off-campus setting. Clinical clock hours are not awarded for grades below a "B". May be repeated (two terms required for completion of the program requirement).

7281: 7381: Seminar in Medical Speech-Language Pathology
Cr. 2 or 3. (2-0; 3-0). Graduate standing or consent of instructor. In-depth discussion and analysis of issues in medical speech-language pathology. Course may be repeated for credit when topics vary.

7282: 7382 Cultural and Linguistic Diversity Issues in Speech-Language Pathology
Cr. 2 or 3. (2-0; 3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing and consent of instructor. Typical and disordered communication in people who use languages, dialects, and cultural communication practices other than Standard American English. Specific topics may vary. Course may be repeated for credit.

7283: Seminar in Pediatric Speech-Language Pathology
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisites: Graduate standing and consent of instructor. In-depth discussion and analysis of issues in pediatric speech-language pathology across a range of disorders and service delivery models. Specific topics will vary. Course may be repeated for credit.

7399: Masters Thesis
Cr. 3. (0-0). Prerequisites: graduate standing. Master's Thesis. May be repeated for credit.
