Courses: Pharmaceutics (PCEU)

6142:6143:7142:7143: Pharmaceutics Literature Review
Cr. 1. (1-0). Prerequisite: consent of instructor. A review and critical discussion of the recent literature in the pharmaceutics area. Discussions will center on papers dealing with innovative approaches to research problems and on analysis of data used to support project conclusions.

6198:6298:6398:6498:6698: Special Problems
Cr. 1-9 per semester by concurrent enrollment. Prerequisites: graduate standing and consent of instructor.

6341: Advanced Pharmacokinetics
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: consent of instructor. A study of the kinetic processes of drug absorption, distribution, metabolism, and excretion and the application of these concepts to the interpretation of data. Mathematical derivations of the mass balanced relationships involving rate processes and their physiological importance in a biological system are correlated.

6342: Advanced Pharmaceutics I
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: PCEU 3340 and PCEU 3341 or equivalent, or consent of instructor. A systematic study of the application of physical chemical principles to the pharmaceutical sciences. Topics include physical pharmacy and conventional dosage forms: Protolytic equilibria, buffers, stability kinetics, enzyme kinetics, drug transport kinetics and theory.

6345: Advanced Pharmaceutics II
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: PCEU 3340 and PCEU 3341 or equivalent, or consent of instructor. A systematic study of the current development of innovative delivery systems. Topics include solid dosage forms, dispersed systems, dermatopharmaceutics, controlled release dosage forms, liposomes, drug targeting delivery and biotechnology-derived products.

6399:6699:6999:7399:7699:7999: Master's Thesis
Cr. 3, 6, or 9 per semester.

7180:7181: Pharmaceutics Seminar
Cr. 1. (1-0). Prerequisite: consent of instructor.

7397: Selected Topics in Pharmaceutics
Cr. 2-4. per semester (3-0). Prerequisite: consent of department chair. May be repeated for credit when topics vary.

7340: Advanced Drug Delivery Systems
Cr. 3. (3-0). Prerequisite: consent of instructor. Course examines current practices, novel drug delivery systems under investigation and future directions of drug delivery systems and technology.

7350: Fundamental Laboratory Methods
Cr. 3. (1-2). Small animal surgical techniques, HPLC, chromatography, cell cultures, design-development-validation of assay techniques required for research in pharmacology and pharmaceutics.

7355: Regulatory Affairs
Cr. 3. (3-0). Various aspects of regulatory affairs in clinical pharmacokinetic evaluation and FDA approvals of new drugs and generic products will be discussed. Topics include clinical trial regulation, good laboratory practice, good manufacturing practice, quality control and assurance, new drug application, abbreviated new drug application and evaluation of contract analytical labs.

8198:8298:8398:8498:8598:8698:8798:8898:8998: Doctoral Research
Cr. 1-9. per semester. Prerequisites: consent of instructor and approval of chair.

8399:8699:8999: Doctoral Dissertation
Cr. 1-9 per semester. Prerequisites: consent of instructor and approval of department chair.
