Bar Admission Requirements

Declaration of Intention to Study Law

Students are responsible for complying with all rules governing admission to practice law in the state or states in which they desire admission to the bar. Students seeking admission to states other than Texas should request state rules and forms within 30 days after starting their law studies.

Please note that the Declaration of Intention to Study Law must be filed before September 15 by summer entrants and before October 1 by fall entrants. See the Law Center's dean of students for more information.

Texas Bar Examination

A combination multi-state and essay examination is given in February and July on the last Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of the month. The bar examination application must be filed 180 days prior to the scheduled date. Inquiries concerning the procedures for admission to the State Bar of Texas may be directed to:
