College of Liberal Arts and Social SciencesDepartment of AnthropologyMaster of Arts ProgramThe Department of Anthropology offers two tracks in its Master of Arts program. Plan I: Thesis Option is designed primarily for students who plan to pursue the Doctor of Philosophy degree or other academic pursuits, while Plan II: Applied Anthropology option (non-thesis) is for students who plan to enter careers as professional applied anthropologists upon completion of the master's degree. Admission Requirements In addition to meeting the college graduate admission requirements, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements for unconditional admission to the Master of Arts in Anthropology program: Requirements include a baccalaureate degree in anthropology or an undergraduate degree that includes 24 semester hours in anthropology or other social science; a 3.00 grade point average (A=4.00) in the most recent 60 semester hours of undergraduate and/or graduate courses; Graduate Record Examination (GRE) scores; and three letters of recommendation. (Verbal, quantitative, and analytical writing GRE scores are examined separately and evaluated as one information source in the total application.) Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above and satisfactorily complete a comprehensive examination. Plan II Program Requirements (Non-Thesis Option)
Students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.00 or above and satisfactorily complete a comprehensive examination.
